By opening the .mov or .mp4 file in the video editing application of your choice, you can loop the video to the desired length while also embedding your AudioJungle music track. One technique I like to use to improve my stock output is double dippin’. What do I mean by that? I mean do the work once and get paid for it twice or more. Here’s an example: One of my very first stock items was an illustration of a clock face. Most authors would stop there and move on to the next file. Instead, I created a Flash version of the clock. With the same graphics and similar code I built a set of Flash timezone clocks. ActionScript is pretty similar to JavaScript so I also built a Unity3d version and have a jQuery one in the works. Did I stop there? No, that same clock is on the wall of my Flash Fine Art Gallery. Did I stop there? Well… yes, but I’m sure it’ll show it’s face again on the Envato marketplaces.

You may be saying – “That’s all fine and good, but how does this apply to me?” This concept can work on just about all of the marketplaces. It even makes sense between different files on the same marketplace. Here are some double dippin’ ideas:

WordPress, HTML, and Flash Developers

1. Create customizable scrollbars, contact forms, and image galleries (in classes if you’re using Flash).
2. Reuse modified versions in every theme or template you create. If necessary, improve them, but try not to start from scratch unless it’s absolutely necessary.

Unity3d Developers & 3d Modelers

The Unity3d category on ActiveDen and the 3d Model category on 3dOcean go hand in hand. If you create a 3d model and upload it to 3dOcean, why not bring it to life in Unity and sell it on ActiveDen?

Image Galleries

1. Create your gallery.
2. Use screenshots of your other files to populate the gallery in the preview file. First of all, it makes your gallery look nice. Also, even if they don’t buy your gallery, they may still buy your other files!

Textures

Did you know that 3dOcean and GraphicRiver both sell textures? The requirements differ slightly, but there’s no reason you shouldn’t consider uploading all your textures to both sites.

For Anyone

1. Write a premium tutorial for any of the Tuts+ sites.
2. Sell that same tutorial on the Tuts Marketplace.
3. Use what you taught in the tutorial to make a file, add to it to make it unique, and sell it on ActiveDen, 3dOcean, or whatever Envato marketplace it would fit best on.

WordPress, HTML Developers

If your template got accepted to ThemeForest, the design would have to be pretty great. If so, why not upload the design to the PSD Templates category?

5. Create a preview image:
   Make a preview image for your file. This image needs to be 590×300, and should a JPEG. This is a great place to make a first impression. Find the perfect place in your video and take a screen shot. You could also use this area to present the video, or show whats included.
6. Create a JPEG thumbnail:
   Finally create a 80px x 80px JPG or PNG thumbnail for your file. It’s best if your thumbnail is a screenshot of your video in some way.
7. Prepare your model releases:
   If you only have one model release for your submission you can upload it directly to the release upload field. But if your file requires more than one release, please include all of the necessary releases within a ZIP folder and upload that one zip file into the release upload field.
8. Upload your files to VideoHive!

1. Save your main File(s):
   Begin by saving your project file. Please keep any and all assets organized within one folder, and save your project file in the root. This will help prevent broken linkage when your file is distributed.

   Note: If you plan to use custom fonts in your projects please only use free custom fonts. Do not include the font within your zip. Rather, include a link to the font’s download location in your help file. This way if a buyer wants to use the same font, they can. All while avoiding and copyright issues.

   All project files require adequate help documentation that briefly describes how to modify elements of the project.

Documentation

Every Project File on VideoHive must include documentation to make the customization process as simple as possible for the purchaser. While you don’t have to teach the buyer how to use After Effects, you should absolutely discuss any basic changes every buyer must make, and the process to make such changes..

For example, if your file is a video display, the buyer will obviously need to replace your placeholders with their own assets. Your documentation should guide the buyer through the steps necessary to make this change. Other things you might want to talk about are how to change colors, how to add or remove placeholders, which layers contain important elements, which compositions contain important elements, etc.

The medium you choose is also important. We accept a wide variety of help file formats, but you should try to stay away from basic TXT files. As they are generally hard to read, and any formatting can easily become messed up. It’s all about making it as easy as possible for the buyers, so try to use one of the following formats.

• Rich Text
• PDF
• Video Tutorial (FLV or MOV)

Watermark

We employ a watermark that we require to be present on every preview video. The watermark comes in three resolutions, and the resolution of your preview video should match the resolution of the watermark you choose. You can download the watermark file here: VideoHive Watermark.

Non-Standard Codecs

While Divx is a very popular codec for digital video playback. It’s not a standard codec for video assets. Rendered video and footage must be in the Quicktime MOV format, and must make use of only standard industry codecs. Some of the more popular codecs include Quicktime PhotoPNG, or Quicktime PhotoJPEG.

Messy Project File Structure

• File Management

  When a buyer decompresses your ZIP file, the folder structure should tell the buyer how to begin using the file. For example, the main project file should always be in the root directory. Along with the project, you should have two folders. One for any assets used, and another containing your help file/documentation. Other folders can be used if you have more to add. And sub-folders can also be used to further organize larger folders containing assets. You’ll want to name these folders obvious names like “Assets” and “Help File”.

• Project Management

  Projects need to be organized properly as well. Messy projects make it harder to move around within, and more difficult for the buyer to customize. In your project panel make sure to group similar assets or compositions in folders, with direct and easy names. Name the layers in your time line, and even feel free to add notes and markers to the time line to better explain to your buyers how and where to customize.

• Remove Assets That Don’t Belong

  When you finish your project, make a copy of the whole folder and ZIP it up. Then with the original render out your preview video. We often see projects come in with the VideoHive watermark layer still on the time line from when you made your preview. Sometimes the watermark is not in the ZIP, so After Effects throws an error when the file is opened because it’s missing assets. Make sure to remove anything that isn’t intended for the buyer. Remember to give the buyer the most polished product possible.

• Keep Your Folder Structure Intact

  If you make any changes to your folder structure after your final save in After Effects, this will cause errors when the file is opened. For example, lets say your working out of a folder with every asset in the root. You save your project the final time. But then after saving you organize all of these assets into a clean folder structure. Since they have all moved, when the project is opened it causes errors, because After Effects cannot locate the assets. Buyers can easily locate the assets, but they shouldn’t have to. Also, buyers with less experience may interpret these errors as genuine file issues, and write in to support.

Poor Description and/or Attributes

The description and attribute sections are provided for your benefit. They help buyers locate your file, and once found they explain to buyer what it is they will be purchasing. It’s important to keep these section as descriptive and accurate as possible.

• Descriptions

  Descriptions should be used to accurately describe your file. YES, the preview video will show the viewers what the end result looks like. But you should use this field as an opportunity to explain what you’re providing (what comes with the file), what it can be used for, duration, if you included any variations, etc. You have comments for questions, but if you use the description wisely, you can answer many common questions before the people need to ask.

• Attributes

  Attributes explain the common aspects of your file. The most common mistake is the category selection. To ensure authors find your file, you should select the bottom-most category possible. The top level describes the type of file your uploading, and the second level describes the style of the file.

Improper Use of Assets

When you use external assets its important to ensure they are all properly licensed and properly credited. It’s also important to remove any assets that cannot be distributed commercially from your ZIP file.

• External Assets

  Any assets you use that you didn’t create yourself need to be specifically licensed for commercial distribution. If a file is submitted that contains another person’s assets, you’ll need to provide a link where the reviewer can view the license to verify it can be distributed. We often see files that include assets that can be used, but because we couldn’t located the license, we have to reject it. So always make sure your assets can be commercially distributed, and then make sure to provide us with the license location.

• AudioJungle Files in your Preview

  The easiest and most recommended method to find high quality audio for your preview is through AudioJungle. Many AudioJungle authors will gladly provide you with a free copy of their music in exchange for a little promotion. A few things to remember when using an AudioJungle file in your preview.

  1. NEVER include the file within the actual download.
  2. ALWAYS give the author credit. All you have to do is explain who made the audio used in your preview, and provide a link to the file’s page on AudioJungle.
  3. You must seek permission from the AJ author before you use their audio.
  4. Only the watermarked version of the audio can be used in the preview, UNLESS you purchase the file.

Step 1: Log in to your new account
You should have received an email from Envato or VideoHive with a link to access your new VideoHive account. If you did not, please contact Envato Support who will give you your new login details.

Step 2: Enter the Migration Assistant
Your account should have a button at the top of the page entitled “Migration Assistant” (see screenshot below). Click on this button to begin migrating your files from Rerendered to VideoHive.

Step 3: Transfer your files across
Once in the Migration Assistant, you will see a list of each of your files from Rerendered. If you wish to put your files up for sale on VidehIve, you should click the Transfer Over button (see screenshot below).

Step 4: Fill in some additional details
For each file you migrate across, you’ll have to fill in a form with some additional details which will help your item sell on VideoHive. You will need to:

1. In the Description Box, provide a description of your item (more detail is better for sales – see this file for a great example with 421 purchases so far).
2. Fill in the attribute details (this helps buyers tell if they can use your file).
3. Fill in some tags (these are essential for search to help buyers find your files).
4. Tell the reviewer anything you think they’ll need to know when reviewing your file.
5. Click the Migrate Project button (making sure you’ve ticked the box indicating you have full rights to sell this item).

Step 5: Wait for your file to be reviewed
Once submitted, your file/s will be reviewed by the VideoHive review team to ensure they meet our functionality and quality guidelines. In most cases they’ll be put through for sale within a couple of days.

Preview Video

Preview videos for files are easily one of the most important parts of your file when you’re ready to upload it. While a description can help explain what the file is intended to be used for, sometimes its easier to show than it is to tell. This is where your preview video can come in handy. The ideal preview video is one that shows the actual file, while also explaining what’s included (additional variations, help documents, other assets, etc). Some preview videos can also guide potential buyers through the included files, by using various techniques to present what you are selling.

One thing to note, we require all of our preview videos to be watermarked. This policy is in place to help protect your work from being easily copied and reproduced. The VideoHive watermark can be found on the wiki or you can download them directly from this link. Please also refer to the upload instructions for each section to learn how to properly watermark your previews:

Description

Descriptions on files is an often overlooked, but important promotional element of every one of your files. This field allows you to give a brief description of your files. You can also provide information regarding what else may come with the file, and how the file can be used.

Some authors also choose to use the bottom of their descriptions to help advertise some of their other files. At this point, you may also want to consider some form of branding for your account and files. Many authors will stick with a similar theme from their profile picture, others produce consistent looking thumbnail images, and some even go as far as to provide a logo of sorts that they use for every file to help buyers identify with your products.

Category & Attributes

Supplying category and attribute information properly in the upload form is crucial. This information is provided to give buyers a rundown of what the file is, it’s encoding methods, and other valuable information to help buyers decide which item they need.

Make sure to always select the most specific sub-category possible. If your file is a title sequence project, with a corporate feel, select After Effects > Titles > Corporate. Ensure your selection is relevant to your file type. Categorizing your file incorrectly can cause it to suffer in sales due to buyers not being able to find it for the right purpose.

Tags

Tagging is very important in the upload process. Tags fuel the search box, and tagging your files appropriately will help potential buyers locate your file easily. You will notice different sections for your tags, and each tag section will provide a few examples of relevant tags for that section to help you get a better idea of what you should be adding. We suggest a minimum of 3 – 5 tags for each item on VideoHive, and to cap the tags at 15. Just try to use the tag fields to accurately describe your file through the use of keywords, and try not to duplicate tags across multiple sections.

Message to Reviewer

This is the field that allows you to communicate with the review team. If there are any special instructions, or information that would be valuable to the review team while they look at your file, this is the place to voice it.

For example, many project files make use of placeholder compositions in the preview. We provide an Asset Library for use within your previews as placeholders. But some authors find that outside assets may be more appropriate. If you choose to use an outside asset, make sure to use images that you are licensed to use. Ensure you use assets from the asset library in the preview only. You must replace these with generic placeholders in your main ZIP. You’ll also want to provide the original location of any assets and any appropriate links to copyright information in the notes to reviewer field.

Plug-ins Within Your Project Files

We have recently begun accepting project files that make use of third party plug-ins. We do not limit the selection of plug-ins that can be used, but when creating a file, authors should always consider ease of use for buyers. Files that are easier to use can generate more sales due to buyers needing less to customize the file. If your file makes use of 5 plug-ins, and two of them are free, but the other three cost money, buyers may not select your file because it’s too difficult or costly to customize.

When you decide to make use of third party plug-ins you should always try to use common or standard plug-ins. Try to only use plug-ins when you cannot easily achieve the effect purely using After Effects.

Help Files

Another requirement for all project files that require customization is help files, or documentation. Any project file you upload that contains placeholders, text, camera moves, or any other element that a buyer would have to customize, requires an accompanying help file to assist buyers. You can view the full instructions for more information about what we require within help files, and exactly when a help file is needed here: How to Create a Help File for your VideoHive Project File.

In order to make migration easier, we are accepting project files that would normally require help files. We are adding a small piece of copy to your description to make buyers aware that your file does not have a help file. Please create help files for your migrated Rerendered projects and update your main file to include them as soon as possible. A project file without a help file will not be as appealing to buyers.

Recap

All of the information listed above should help you get more comfortable with our system and practices. Using this text, and the other information found on the wiki, you should be familiar with our normal requirements when creating new content to upload on VideoHive. We also tried to make the migration of your Rerendered files over to VideoHive as simple and minimal as possible. Anything listed above that you may have left out, or not been able to change when moving your files, you should go back now and fix or update.
