GraphicRiver: Fonts Upload Instructions

Step 1: Prepare Your File

  1. Organize your font submission into clearly labeled files. If your font will come in multiple files (bold, italic, heavy, etc) please label each file clearly.  Authors are also encouraged to include original files used in the creation, if desired.  Double check that you’ve provided organized files, extensive font installation & help documents, and made it as easy as possible for buyers to install and work with your font.
NOTE: Quality fonts should be crisp and clear–jagged edges are one of the most common reasons for a rejection.
  2. Take notes on exactly which characters and symbols are available in your font set. Your preview and file description will need to describe your character sets clearly to be approved. Also be clear on what sizes your fonts are ideally designed for.
  3. Make sure you have all the information about any assets used in the file–you’ll need this later! If your assets are linked to the main file, be certain you’ve included them in your zip.
  4. Optional: Create useful, written instructions in English for the buyer in either pdf, doc, txt, or html format. Keep in mind that buyers may have little to no familiarity with font installation or software, so incorporate clear explanations and visuals when necessary. You may create video or flash instructions in addition to, but not instead of text instructions. Read more.
  5. Fonts can appear very different in different mediums and sizes. Please be sure to test and sample your file thoroughly.
Helpful Hint: It’s helpful if you only upload 1-4 items at a time to avoid getting many files rejected for a simple mistake.
Want more helpful hints on getting approved? Read GraphicRiver’s two part series: Get Approved , and Get Approved Part Two.

Step 2: Make Sure That You and Your File Don’t Get Banned

  1. Do not create fonts identical to commercial or copyrighted fonts. Fonts that identically or nearly-identically mimic well-known commercial fonts will not be accepted.
  2. Do not upload borrowed assets. Most freebies and downloads from stock sites are not licensed for redistribution and resale.
Note: Even when using an appropriately licensed asset, the majority of the submission should be your own creative work.
  3. Only use images, photos, icons, brushes, filters, textures, patterns, and other assets which you have the rights to use. It is YOUR responsibility to ensure you have the rights to use any materials. We will remove or reject your file if it violates another person’s copyright or trademark. Please review this article for more information on acceptable assets.
Note: You may NOT create fonts from a copyrighted material. (i.e., creating a dingbats font set from famous cartoon characters)
  4. Do not create a file based on a tutorial.
  5. You may not copy the design, style, or technique of files from GraphicRiver or elsewhere. There is a fine line between being inspired by another file and copying it. If you upload a file that looks too similar to another file, it will be removed and you will receive a warning.
  6. Do not use trademarked logos or products in your file. This also includes product illustrations which include products obviously modeled after trademarked product designs. (e.g., please do not submit an illustration that is obviously an Apple iPhone or a Nintendo controller) Product illustrations must have aspects that differ noticably from the copyrighted product.
  7. Do not use famous landmarks, architecture, or works or art (such as the Eiffel Tower or the Statue of Liberty) that are protected under U.S. or International copyright laws.

Step 3: Upload Your Files

  1. Title and description
    1. Write your title and description in the text areas. Get some tips.
    2. Make sure to CLEARLY define what character sets and symbols are included in your font.
    3. Clearly define what size or point your font is ideal for.
    4. Click Preview Description to make sure it looks right.
  2. Thumbnail
    1. Create an 80 x 80 pixel JPG or PNG thumbnail.
    2. Click Upload and select the thumbnail on your computer.
    3. Under the word “Thumbnail,” click the dropdown and select the thumbnail.
  3. Preview Image.
    1. Create an 590 pixel wide jpg preview image. JPGs may be any vertical height, but we recommend 590×700 for optimal viewing. Note: files MUST be a JPG–PNGs or GIFs will not display correctly.
Tip: Read about what makes a good preview image.
    2. Font previews MUST show a generous amount of sample copy in your font. When in doubt, all alphanumeric characters (A-Z, 0-9, caps and lowercase) and any punctuation symbols are a good basic start. Failure to provide enough copy preview will result in a rejection.
    3. Click Upload and select the preview image on your computer.
    4. Under the words “Preview Image”, click the dropdown and select the preview image.
  4. Main Files
    1. Zip (not Rar) all the files the buyer will need, including all the files and instructions. Files should be organized within the zip as logically as possible. Name it main.zip.
    2. Click Upload and select main.zip on your computer.
    3. Under the word “Main File(s)” click the dropdown and select main.zip.
Helpful Hint - To save time, instead of uploading your thumbnail, preview image, preview source, and main files individually, you can upload them all at once. Just click upload and ctrl+click all the files.
  5. OPTIONAL: Preview Image Set
    1. If you want to provide additional preview images for potential buyers, you can create a Preview Image Set. Create a zip containing additional JPG images which are no larger than 900×900 pixels. NOTE: Preview Image Sets must be zip files, even if you’re only providing one additional image.
    2. Name the 900×900 pixel JPG files in the order which you want them to appear, using double digits. For example: 01_preview1.jpg, 02_preview2.jpg, 03_closeup.jpgNOTE: Please do NOT include any other files than the preview JPGs, and do not include your preview JPGs in your main zip.
    3. Under the words “Preview Image Set” click the dropdown and select your preview set zip.
  6. Categories & Attributes
    1. Select a category.
    2. Select ideal font size.
    3. Choose compatible OS system.
    4. Select your file formats included in the ZIP.
  7. Tags
    1. Write relevant tags, separated by commas, in each of the three tag fields. Please avoid doubling the name of the sub-category to which you submitted your file. (If you’ve submitted to the Decorative sub-category you do not need to include “decorative” as a tag.) Please note that tags may contain multiple words. ex: “cross-media” or “community service”.
    2. Make sure each tag is spelled correctly (using American Standard English).
    3. Limit your tags across all three categories to 15 total, not 15 per category.
Helpful Hint - Effective and relevant tagging can make the difference between 10 and 100 sales. Put yourself in the shoes of a potential buyer looking for your file. Try to imagine what they’d search for. Test out that search. Ask the people around you what they would search for.
  8. Notes to the Reviewer
    1. When using images containing recognizable human faces or private locations, link to a scanned version of a filled out and signed model or location release. Read more.
  9. Read the Disclaimer and Click the Checkbox.
  10. Click Upload and Make Some Money! Please note that reviewing your file may take up to a week.
