ActiveDen: Unity 3d Upload Instructions
Step 1: Prepare Your File
- Before you start building your file take a look at the standards we expect from files uploaded to ActiveDen. Read more.
- Comment your code so that it’s easy to understand and modify. Read more.
- Create useful, written instructions in English for the buyer in either pdf, doc, txt, or html format. You may create video or flash instructions in addition to, but not instead of text instructions. Read more.
Helpful Hint – Rather than taking time to create a new instructions template, use this one.
- Name your project files and items in your heirarchy in a way that’s easy for users to understand.
- Files often react differently locally and on the platform your file is meant for. Be sure to test your files thoroughly on the web, iPhone, or whatever you’re file is built for.
Step 2: Make Sure That You and Your File Don’t Get Banned
- Do not upload stolen work. Authors who upload files containing signs of having been stolen from other authors will be banned.
- Only use images, audio, video, and code you have the rights to use. It is YOUR responsibility to ensure you have the rights to use any materials. We will remove or reject your file if it violates another person’s copyright. Please review this article for more information on acceptable assets.
- Do not create a file based on a tutorial.
- You may not copy the design, functionality, or code of files from ActiveDen or elsewhere. There is a fine line between being inspired by another file and copying it. If you upload a file that looks too similar to another file, it will be removed and you will receive a warning.
- Do not use trademarked logos or products in your file.
Step 3: Upload Your Files
- Title and description
- Write your title and description in the text areas using proper naming convention. Read more.
- Thumbnail
- Create an 80 x 80 pixel jpg or png thumbnail.
- Click Upload and select the thumbnail on your computer.
- Under the word “Thumbnail”, click the dropdown and select the thumbnail.
- Preview Image - fullscreen previews only.
- Create an 590 x 300 pixel jpg preview image.
- Click Upload and select the preview image on your computer.
- Under the words “Preview Image”, click the dropdown and select the preview image.
- Preview Source
- There are 3 types of previews – the Unity player, video, and the preview image set. You can use all or none of them. Decide the best way to showcase your file and follow the instructions below.
- Unity Player Previews
- Create a Zip of your Unity preview files. This should consist of a .unity3d file, an html file called index.html in the top level (not within a folder), and any other required assets. Please do not include source in this package.
- Video Previews
- Create either an FLV or F4V version of your video at 640×360px.
- Under the words “Video Preview” click the dropdown and select your video.
- Image Preview
- If you want to provide additional preview images for potential buyers, you can create a Preview Image Set. Create a zip containing additional JPG images which are no larger than 900×900 pixels. NOTE: Preview Image Sets must be zip files, even if you’re only providing one additional image.
- Name the 900×900 pixel JPG files in the order which you want them to appear, using double digits. For example: 01_preview1.jpg, 02_preview2.jpg, 03_closeup.jpg… NOTE: Please do NOT include any other files than the preview JPGs.
- Under the words “Preview Image Set” click the dropdown and select your preview set zip.
- Unity Player Previews
- There are 3 types of previews – the Unity player, video, and the preview image set. You can use all or none of them. Decide the best way to showcase your file and follow the instructions below.
- Main Files
- Zip (not Rar) all the files the buyer will need, including a .unitypackage (Read more), sample project, and instructions, and name it main.zip.
- Click Upload and select main.zip on your computer.
- Under the word “Main File(s)” click the dropdown and select main.zip.
Helpful Hint – To save time, instead of uploading your thumbnail, preview image, preview source, and main files individually, you can upload them all at once. Just click upload and ctrl+click all the files. - Categories & Attributes
- Select a category.
- Write the size your file would add to a web-based .unity3d file. ex: A game without your file is 300kb and with your file 310kb. Your file size would be 10kb.
- Select what version of Unity your file can be used with.
- Select the scripting language(s) used, if any.
- If there’s a 3d model included, make sure it’s saved in the .FBX format. Unfortunately, we can’t accept other file types at this time.
- List all the file types used in your package.
- Tags
- Write relevant tags, separated by commas, in both tag fields. Please note that tags may contain multiple words. ex: “game-ready” or “first person shooter.” Read more.
- Make sure each tag is spelled correctly.
- Limit your tags across all three categories to 15 total, not 15 per category.
Helpful Hint – Effective and relevant tagging can make the difference between 10 and 100 sales. Put yourself in the shoes of a potential buyer looking for your file. Try to imagine what they’d search for. Ask the people around you what they would search for. - Notes to the Reviewer
- When using images containing recognizable human faces or private locations, link to a scanned version of a filled out and signed model or location release. Read more.
- Read the Disclaimer and Click the Checkbox.
- Click Upload and Make Some Money! Please note that reviewing your file may take up to a week.
