My Rerendered File Got Approved on VideoHive. What Now?

First I’d like to just start off by welcoming all of the new Rerendered members! The Rerendered and Envato teams are super excited about this merger. We are really looking forward to seeing all of the fantastic Rerendered items, and can’t wait to see all of the new stuff that will come in down the line.

This posting is intended to explain how VideoHive works. It will list the few things we require from all of our files, and also a bunch of other things you can do to maximize exposure and grow your potential for sales. Once your files get migrated over, I invite you to look around and get familiar with our site. Preview Video

Preview videos for files are easily one of the most important parts of your file when you’re ready to upload it. While a description can help explain what the file is intended to be used for, sometimes its easier to show than it is to tell. This is where your preview video can come in handy. The ideal preview video is one that shows the actual file, while also explaining what’s included (additional variations, help documents, other assets, etc). Some preview videos can also guide potential buyers through the included files, by using various techniques to present what you are selling.

One thing to note, we require all of our preview videos to be watermarked. This policy is in place to help protect your work from being easily copied and reproduced. The VideoHive watermark can be found on the wiki or you can download them directly from this link. Please also refer to the upload instructions for each section to learn how to properly watermark your previews:

Helpful Hint: We encourage you to go back and increase the size of your migrated Rerendered files to match the size of the corresponding watermark. This can be achieved through the update tab located at the top of each one of your items. Doing this allows potential buyers a higher quality preview of your file. Making a file’s details easier to see will be a big asset to buyers.

Description

Descriptions on files is an often overlooked, but important promotional element of every one of your files. This field allows you to give a brief description of your files. You can also provide information regarding what else may come with the file, and how the file can be used.

Some authors also choose to use the bottom of their descriptions to help advertise some of their other files. At this point, you may also want to consider some form of branding for your account and files. Many authors will stick with a similar theme from their profile picture, others produce consistent looking thumbnail images, and some even go as far as to provide a logo of sorts that they use for every file to help buyers identify with your products.

Category & Attributes

Supplying category and attribute information properly in the upload form is crucial. This information is provided to give buyers a rundown of what the file is, it’s encoding methods, and other valuable information to help buyers decide which item they need.

Make sure to always select the most specific sub-category possible. If your file is a title sequence project, with a corporate feel, select After Effects > Titles > Corporate. Ensure your selection is relevant to your file type. Categorizing your file incorrectly can cause it to suffer in sales due to buyers not being able to find it for the right purpose.

Tags

Tagging is very important in the upload process. Tags fuel the search box, and tagging your files appropriately will help potential buyers locate your file easily. You will notice different sections for your tags, and each tag section will provide a few examples of relevant tags for that section to help you get a better idea of what you should be adding. We suggest a minimum of 3 – 5 tags for each item on VideoHive, and to cap the tags at 15. Just try to use the tag fields to accurately describe your file through the use of keywords, and try not to duplicate tags across multiple sections.

Message to Reviewer

This is the field that allows you to communicate with the review team. If there are any special instructions, or information that would be valuable to the review team while they look at your file, this is the place to voice it.

For example, many project files make use of placeholder compositions in the preview. We provide an Asset Library for use within your previews as placeholders. But some authors find that outside assets may be more appropriate. If you choose to use an outside asset, make sure to use images that you are licensed to use. Ensure you use assets from the asset library in the preview only. You must replace these with generic placeholders in your main ZIP. You’ll also want to provide the original location of any assets and any appropriate links to copyright information in the notes to reviewer field.

Plug-ins Within Your Project Files

We have recently begun accepting project files that make use of third party plug-ins. We do not limit the selection of plug-ins that can be used, but when creating a file, authors should always consider ease of use for buyers. Files that are easier to use can generate more sales due to buyers needing less to customize the file. If your file makes use of 5 plug-ins, and two of them are free, but the other three cost money, buyers may not select your file because it’s too difficult or costly to customize.

When you decide to make use of third party plug-ins you should always try to use common or standard plug-ins. Try to only use plug-ins when you cannot easily achieve the effect purely using After Effects.

Helpful Hint: Some authors decide to also include pre-rendered videos produced from animations created by the plug-ins. They will set up a second project that makes use of the pre-rendered elements instead of layers with the effect applied. They are able to then note that the file can still be customized without owning the plug-ins but customization of the layers will be limited.

Help Files

Another requirement for all project files that require customization is help files, or documentation. Any project file you upload that contains placeholders, text, camera moves, or any other element that a buyer would have to customize, requires an accompanying help file to assist buyers. In order to make migration easier, we are accepting project files that would normally require help files. We are adding a small piece of copy to your description to make buyers aware that your file does not have a help file. Please create help files for your migrated Rerendered projects and update your main file to include them as soon as possible. A project file without a help file will not be as appealing to buyers.

All of the information listed above should help you get more comfortable with our system and practices. Using this text, and the other information found on the wiki, you should be familiar with our normal requirements when creating new content to upload on VideoHive. We also tried to make the migration of your Rerendered files over to VideoHive as simple and minimal as possible. Anything listed above that you may have left out, or not been able to change when moving your files, you should go back now and fix or update.
