AudioJungle: Use of Pre-Existing Audio Loops/Samples

AudioJungle prides itself on high quality, unique and original audio compositions from its authors. It’s important that we assist our authors along the way with clarifications as to what is and is not acceptable for our library. In turn, this maintains the integrity of our entire library, which affords all our customers high quality and reliable stock audio at an affordable price.

“Out-of-the-box” Loops

A problem we occasionally run into is when we see/hear audio that is largely or entirely based on pre-existing audio loops or samples direct from audio software or sample CDs. This damages the integrity and quality of the AudioJungle library and if we want customers to continue returning to AudioJungle, it’s important we make it clear to authors what is and what is not acceptable.

This post will serve as a guide to clarifying our rule regarding the use of pre-existing or “out-of-the-box” audio loops and what is allowed and what is not allowed.

Q. Can I take a pre-existing audio loop straight out of my software and upload it directly to AudioJungle without any modification?

A. It should go without saying, but you cannot take an audio loop or drum loop that you have not created yourself from a DAW, a sample CD or any audio software and upload it “as-is” to AudioJungle. This would be classified as a copyright infringement.

Q. Can I use pre-existing audio loops I did not create myself from the audio application I use, and then use them in a new track I produce?

A. Submissions based entirely on royalty free sample loops with little in the way of added production, engineering, or original composition applied is not allowed on AudioJungle. For the integrity of audio on AudioJungle, we do not allow basic compositions made entirely from royalty free sample loops. Our site only accepts original compositions that are not heavily based on out-of-the-box sample loops.

Q. Can I upload music created with Garageband or Music Maker?

A. If your audio created with Garageband or Music Maker (etc…) is an original composition not based on pre-existing loops, then yes, you can upload music created with this type of software. What you cannot do however, is create a track using Garageband or Music Maker (etc…) that is based entirely on audio loops with little in the way of added production, engineering, or original composition applied.

Q. Can I use pre-existing drum loops in my audio submission?

A. Yes. If you use a pre-existing drum loop as part of a composition that you have composed, arranged, and/or produced yourself, this is acceptable. This includes drum loops found in DAWs, audio software, and sample CDs that give you license to use drum loops in stock audio that can be redistributed. Although it’s not a requirement, we do recommend however that you cut-up, remix, or apply creativity to out-of-the-box drum loops in order to make them sound more unique.

What Happens if this Rule is Ignored?

If we discover that your file is based entirely on pre-existing loops, your item is likely to be removed from our library. Authors who predominantly use pre-existing loops throughout all their submissions may also receive a warning and/or get banned from uploading content to AudioJungle. So it is very important that you understand the rules before uploading content to AudioJungle. If in doubt about something, consult this guide before uploading your new item. And if you still have questions, write to support@envato.com and ask us, we’d be glad to help! 9 times out of 10 however, if you are ever unsure about using an audio loop, it probably means that you should err on the side of caution and not use it.

Why So Strict?

The reason we have to be strict about this is because of AudioJungle’s reputation. We want our library to be filled with original, unique, high quality audio from talented authors and prevent customers from finding audio in our library that could be easily recreated using certain software. Unlike some of our competitors, we feel that there is little point in selling audio largely or entirely based on pre-existing samples and loops that have been heard and used over and over elsewhere.

So to help you better understand what our requirements are and prevent your item getting rejected (or, worse still, prevent you from getting banned), we hope this article has helped explain and more clearly define what is and what is not acceptable regarding use of pre-existing and out-of-the-box audio loops.
