We take great pride in our global and thriving community, it’s part of what makes the Marketplaces and Envato sites such a friendly place to participate in. Our focus on forum rules and guidelines is one of transparency and mutual respect. We invite all users who wish to participate, give feedback, or have their say to do so!

We aim to take a transparent and common sense approach with forum rules and moderating. Before using or participating on the forums, please do familiarize yourself with the below rules and guidelines. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact a support member.

Do:

1. Post threads in the correct section and marketplace, “All Marketplaces” is only to be used if it is truly relevant to them all.
2. Ensure any threads discussing ways to improve an item that was not accepted go in the “Item Discussion” section where this is permitted.
3. Get to know your fellow members and peers! Help out new users with any questions, be active, and share your feedback. Participating and affecting the community in a positive way will make you eligible for the Forum Superstar and Community Superstar badges.
4. Please offer respect to your fellow users, staff, and moderators and refrain from personal attacks, calling out another user and/or their item, and refrain from posting copyright accusations on the forums. If threads become personal or heated towards a user, reviewer, or staff member the thread will be locked/removed and further actions may be taken. This includes calling out specific items or authors on the marketplaces, which will not be tolerated.
5. Send any account issues or problems you have to support. Support checks the forums when they can, but the only way to guarantee they’ll see and resolve your issue is to contact them directly. Also, be sure to search the wiki and the forums (via the search tab) before starting a thread with a question. Chances are it’s already been answered!

Do NOT:

1. Spam. These thread will be disabled and users warned and/or banned.
2. Duplicate threads will be locked to keep the forums clear, please do a search before posting a new thread and check out the recent threads from the past few days. There is a good chance the topic has already been started.
3. Self promotion is not allowed on the forums, for examples and clarification, see the below section title A Note on Self Promotion. In addition, promoting outside services or competitors is not allowed on the forums.
4. Post any threads discussing or link to piracy and/or warez sites. These do more damage than good and will be locked or disabled. Report any copyright, piracy, or warez violations to Envato Support, and see our wiki section on Copyright Support.
5. Go extremely off the topic of the thread in question. We understand the forums are a fun place and a little off topic chat never hurt anyone, but the mods may step in to steer the direction if needed.
6. Discuss or link to offensive topics, such as pornography, violent themes, sexism, racism or other discriminatory subjects, even as a “joke”. Users doing so will receive a warning and further action if needed. Threads of a political or religious nature are not appropriate for the marketplaces.
7. Post or solicit any kind of racism, flaming, trolling, harassment, discrimination of any kind, or behavior deemed by the Envato staff to be intentionally abusive or inappropriate will result in an immediate warning. Further violations can escalate to account freezes and bans.
8. Create forum titles in all capital letters.

Anti-censorship, Pro Constructive Feedback!
We value the feedback and input we get from the community. Seriously. As long as posts abide by forum rules and guidelines, we’ll step back, take note and respond to input or feedback given. If you have any issues or something you’d like to discuss privately please do not hesitate to contact Envato Support via the help page on the Marketplace. Our Community Mods are here to help and to steer the conversation and give any input needed. If you have questions about the forums let them know!

Our Warning and Forum Ban Policy
We will temporarily or permanently ban members from the forums for repeated rule breaches, including our policies on trolling or any other form of consistent disruptive behavior. Forum bans will usually be temporary and will only be used when other alternatives have already been looked at and have not been successful. To avoid disruption to your forum privileges, please observe the rules in this document at all times and always follow staff and moderators direction. Moderators will report serious rule infractions and a warning or forum ban may result. If your account has been banned (temporarily or permanently), you will still be able to browse the forums, but not be able to comment or post new threads. You will still be able to comment on items and access to other site services will be maintained. Support will contact you at your registered email address in the event that your account has restrictions placed on it with further information.

A Note on Self Promotion

This practice effectively undercuts the hard work of all authors who wish to sell their items fairly, and as such it is not tolerated.

If you’d like to post a link to your item to get feedback or discussion on how to improve it, it must be posted in the “Item Discussion” section of the forums.Envato Specific Items: If you’ve made a special item or app that is specifically Envato related and desire to post it on the forums, contact us first please.

What’s an “API”? A Pink Igloo? A Pig Itching? Not quite.

The Marketplace’s Application Programming Interface (API) allows the development of applications with access to a range of data from all the marketplaces such as the most popular and latest files. More sensitive data such as your account balance, recent sales, and monthly statements can also be accessed securely using your individual API key!

So what? I’m a designer – why should I be interested in geeky code interface stuff? Well, using the API you can develop apps/sites for your mobile, your desktop, or even your blog. Did I mention you can even design and style your applications however you want? Now that’s pretty cool, right?!

Since the Marketplace API was released about 6 months ago, several authors have jumped in feet first to develop some outstanding contributions for the community.

Let’s see what’s been going on…

Envato Marketplace Mobile

The Envato Marketplace Mobile is a gorgeous site that displays recent & popular files, popular authors, and the most recent blog posts for each Envato marketplace. As well as looking super stylish from the word go, when browsing each of the 5 available marketplaces the site is re-skinned for that marketplace, making you feel right at home.

In addition to browsing the marketplaces’ files and blog posts in such stylish fashion, using your username & API Key, you can securely access your most recent sales, account balance, commission rate, and monthly sales statements. There is even an upcoming feature where you can have your statements emailed to you! How could you top all of this? Well, you can view all of this whilst skinning the site to the Marketplace of your choice! Seriously cool.

Designed specifically for the iPhone, this site works great on most mobile phones and although I will soon be stroking a shiny new iPhone, it even looks great on my old Sony Ericsson K800i!

This site is definitely the top contender right now. Superb work by hagdesigns.

Envato Marketplace Items WordPress Plugin

For those of you with blogs and/or sites powered by WordPress, this plugin is a MUST have. In less than 5 minutes, you can have a neatly formed grid displaying a marketplace’s popular files or the recently uploaded files from a specific category (i.e. music-players on Activeden, wordpress on ThemeForest or icons on GraphicRiver). You can also display a specific user’s latest files (i.e. Bitfade). You can use the plugin multiple times per page so if you’re torn between two categories of files, you can display both! :-)

As well as being able to promote files, this plugin also provides the opportunity to earn referral money by adding your referral id to the hyperlinks!

iEnvato AIR Application

iEnvato is a gorgeous little app made with Adobe AIR allowing installation on both MAC and PC! *applause*

This gorgeously-skinned, resizable app, which supports skinning and shortcuts for all 5 marketplaces, displays your 50 most recent sales, which can then be sorted by file name, amount made, or time and date of purchase. There is also a page devoted to statistics, showing your last 50 sales and the income made from each of those sales – a really nice touch for those of us who don’t make 50+ sales a day!

As well as having a slick design, this app also features shortcuts to your author dashboard and chosen marketplace forums, and notifies you of new sales! There is also a very worthy donate button. ;)

Envato Product Sales Web Report

Another really cool site that’s been targeted for iPhone users is Jernigani’s Envato Product Sales Web Report App that focuses more on your account details and sales than on browsing the marketplaces.

With recent sales statistics, monthly sales, earnings statistics, your current commission rate, balance, and total earnings, this site provides a lot of information for you.

But wait, there’s more! All the files you have for sale on the marketplaces are displayed along with all the comments for each file so you can easily check your comments whilst checking your sales stats and balance! Awesome!

This app will soon be for sale on the ThemeForest MarketPlace and there is a considerable list of future plans so keep a sharp eye out for it!

Envato App

This slick Envato app not only shows your balance and number of sales but also your rating, your referral/file earnings, AND all your badges! Love it! Super smooth page transitions will also reveal a list of your last 50 sales and the most recent comments made on your items whilst also providing a link to that item comment from the app. Gorgeous and exceptionally clever work from Emroni!

NB: Due to the awesomeness of this app, you have to be logged into your account in either Safari or Internet Explorer whilst using it to provide the extra information not provided by the marketplace API.

Nvator iPhone App

Nvator is a very sleek native iPhone app that allows you to keep a tab on your Envato account wherever you are. Although it’s a relatively new app, Nvator has already got a slick feel to it and boasts several cool features with the promise of more to come! The current version (v1.1) displays your balance, commission rate, recent sales, and monthly sales in tabular and graphical formats! Upcoming features include viewing buyers’ comments, popular items, and more stats! Awesome work by DenonStudio – definitely keep an eye on this one!

SalesDonkey

SalesDonkey is an app for those MAC users out there who want a better way of finding out our account balance than hitting ?R in Safari over and over again.

When minimized, you can decide whether to display your total earnings or account balance alongside the Super Sexy SalesDonkey system tray icon! Once maximized, the app shows your recent sales and, most importantly, how much you’ve made. You can also browse recent comments as well as opening the comment for replying in your browser straight from the app!

Envato Sales, Twitter Notification Service

The Envato Marketplace has an API which allows outside applications to access the marketplaces easily and safely. You can use it to build all sorts of awesome apps!

What’s an API?

An application programming interface (API) is a set of routines, data structures, object classes and/or protocols provided by libraries and/or operating system services in order to support the building of applications. You can find out more about APIs here.

Apps that use the Envato Marketplace API

The Envato Marketplace API means that talented developers can build applications to access the Envato marketplaces, and that they can access account information such as author sales or referrer earnings without the user needing to provide their username and password details.

Where you can find your API key

If you’re using an app that requires your API key, you can find it by visiting your Account page then clicking the My Settings tab. At the bottom of the page you’ll find your account’s API key and a button to regenerate it as needed.

Emphasize Text

Wrap your text in either <strong> and </strong> or <em> and </em> to place emphasis. For example:

Bold Text

Links

Linking is one of the most essential things you’ll want to do. It’s easy too! Just wrap up the text you want to link with <a href="link"> and </a>. So for example if you want to link to the very awesome SmashingMagazine site then you’d write:

Images

If you want to show an image you first need to have somewhere to store it. Happily there are a lot of places you can place images for free. Try these places:

• Flickr – Free Image Hosting from Yahoo!
• MediaFire – Free File Hosting
• PhotoBucket – Free Image and Video Hosting
• RapidShare – Free File Hosting for Pretty Much Anything

Once you have a URL for the image then you write <img src="URL">. For example there is an image of the Marketplace logos up at http://envato.s3.amazonaws.com/wiki/sites.png, so to show them just write:

Quoting Someone

If you want to quote someone simply wrap the code in <blockquote> and </blockquote>. This is especially useful on the forums. If you click "Reply" it will automatically put these in for you.

Listing Stuff

You can make two types of lists, either an unordered one (points) or an ordered one (numbered). Both types of lists begin and end with a list tag, either <ul> … </ul> or <ol> … </ol>. In between you wrap each item in the list with list item tags, like this <li> …</li>. For example:

You can also put lists into lists, or change the type of list numbering or bullet types. Learn about list options here.

Headings

Sometimes you want to add a bit of structure to your text with some headings. We only support two types of headings – h3 and h4. The larger ones won’t display because we save their use for the main site, Google doesn’t like it if you have too many h1’s and h2’s, and we don’t want to be penalized. But don’t worry h3 and h4 look awesome! Here are some examples:

You can display code in one of two ways. If you just have a few words of code then wrap the text in <code> and </code>. If you have a large block then you should put it on a new line and wrap it in <pre> and </pre> like this:

You can add a line break with a very simple tag <br /> (which stands for Break!)

You can do a lot of cool stuff with HTML and CSS. Not everything is allowed on the marketplaces just because we don’t want to break the main page layout, but it’s still worth learning it all anyway!
